All instruction at the Ito Dojo is volunteer. The instructors pay the same YMCA fees as the rest of the class. We do the best we can to make sure that an instructor is available for classes during the week, but we also have professions that require us to travel. As such we send out a weekly email notifying students of any potential of classes where senior students will be instructing — when new students decide to join for the long term, they will be asked for an email address so that the class announcements will go out to all. Part of kendo development is teaching your junior students, and all members of the dojo make as many classes as they can to keep things consistent.
We practice twice a week in the North Gym. Sundays are focused on children and adult beginners and working on basics (for all levels), while Wednesdays are focused on advanced students. Although Sundays are focused on beginners, all levels attend and advanced students usually assist in the instruction (as well as work on their own basics!).
